A motor vehicle accident in New York and other areas of the country can result in serious injuries for some while others walk away unscathed. Unfortunately, a 5-year-old reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury in a recent crash in another state. The driver believed to have caused the crash has since been arrested, suspected of drunk driving.

The crash happened during the early morning hours of a day in January. According to reports, a 34-year-old man driving a pickup truck was approaching a red light. Witnesses claim that instead of braking, the man sped through. As a result, the truck reportedly T-boned a vehicle going through the intersection.

Though the pickup truck driver and his female passenger were uninjured, all four occupants of the second vehicle were injured. The injuries of three of the occupants are not serious. However, the fourth occupant, a 5-year-old, suffered a traumatic brain injury requiring emergency surgery. Reports indicate that the girl is “fighting for her life.” Police say that evidence in the pickup truck indicates that the driver was drinking at a sports bar prior to the accident.

Unfortunately, a traumatic brain injury can have significant, lifelong consequences. Many people require around-the-clock care as a result. However, it is often difficult to determine exactly how a brain injury will impact a victim in the immediate aftermath of an injury. To ensure that families in New York are able to seek the medical care they need after a loved one suffers such an accident, they may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit. If successfully presented, they could receive a financial award that will help them meet their financial obligations as they cope with the injuries their loved one suffered.
